3D Laser Scanning Services and Printing Makes the New Love Bug

The New Herby

Remember Herbie, the Love Bug? Well, you can now forget him. There is a new bug in town. It’s name is Urbee!! It doesn’t really look like a bug. It looks more like a computer mouse minus the cord. Fortunately for you and me, Urbee doesn’t have a mind of his own. Also, Urbee doesn’t act like an annoying immature teenager. Urbee is of the more mellow type. But that doesn’t mean that Urbee is not special. Urbee is unlike any other car out there. It is the brainchild of engineers who design and create things using 3D printing and 3D laser scanning services technology. Urbee is to be the first 3D printed car (beep beep).

Herbie won't be happy about 3D laser scanning and 3D printing

I am sure that telling you all this is going to make Herby want to squirt some oil in my face or slam the hood down on me, but I don’t care. Herby had his day in the limelight and it’s time for a new sparkpulg. Move over Henry Ford because a guy named Jim Kor is taking your invention to places you never dreamed. Even 20 years ago, who could have imagined that cars could be made using 3D printing and 3D laser scanning services? Well now it seems to be becoming a reality. Kor and his team are working on making a super fuel efficient car that is completely 3D printed. If you look at the design of the Urbee you will notice a rather familiar shape. It kind of looks like a teardrop. If you ask me, a tear drop should ride pretty well against the wind. The weight of the car is about 1200lbs.

3D laser Scanning services and 3D printing making a bad bug

Right now Kor is still working at it, hoping to finish his 3D printing and 3D laser scanning services beauty. He is looking for investors too. If anyone out there want to take part in the victory lap when he finally gets it on the road, then they can join the KOR Ecologic crowd-funding project. The final results should be worth it. He isn’t just breaking barriers for innovative ways to make cars, he is looking for a name in the Guinness Book of World records for the most fuel efficient car ever. We are talking being able to drive across the U.S. on a tank. That is some serious mileage.

Honk if it is a good idea

The whole idea sounds great to me. A 3D printed car would sure save time finding a rental car when my other one breaks down. Okay maybe not. According to Kor it takes about 2500 hours to print one. That will be good time spent since this car is going to be super environmentally friendly. It will be good for the trees and good for your wallet. Who knows maybe there will be a Hollywood contract in the works for a “Urbee the Love Bug” movie.

It’s amazing what people are doing these days with 3D printing and 3D laser scanning services.  Who could have imagines that guys like this could start designing cars that were made out of 3D printed parts. What other kinds of things could be made? I’m starting to think that anything is possible.
